can someone link me a good design guide to how correctly analyze a pipeline with standard underground depth but have loads at grade.
i have used caesar undeground modeller before (checked by a pipe stress engineer) but in this case not sure how to add/distribute the additional loads at grade on to the pipeline.
i will ask our pipe stress guy later but want to check with you if you have a guide or link how is this properly analyzed.

thanks,

Delagina....

Here are two sets of files I posted several years ago on the PTC Mathcad forums that deal with your question. Don't worry if you don't have Mathcad because both zip files include pdf printouts of the Mathcad worksheets. Also, one of my main sources was "Buried Pipe Design" by A.P. Moser, which is a good book to get if you deal with the subject often.

RE: pipeline 4' below grade with loads at grade

What sort of "loads"

Road and rail crossings are dealt with in API RP 1102 (7th edition is the latest one).

You can also adapt some of the graphs and formulae for other loads.

At 4 foot you're about optimum. The load from weight of soil is still relatively low and the effect of surface loads decreasing rapidly so combined loading is at about a minimum at 4 ft cover.

biggest issue by far is differential settlement. If you've got tah then you're in trouble - all the standard formulae etc work on the basis that there isn't any.

A few more details / drawings / sections would get you more help.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

thanks. i will look at your links.

i thought this would go away when i told my boss i'm a structural engineer and give this to our mechanical engineer or pipeline engineer.
i probably will be working with pipe stress and mechanical engineer to do this.

there is a 500-ton drilling rig at grade.
