Roof Braced Frames Replacing Diaphragm - ASCE 7 Seismic Force Resisting System

Roof Braced Frames Replacing Diaphragm - ASCE 7 Seismic Force Resisting System

(OP)
In the absence of a structural roof diaphragm, when braced frames in the roof plane are used instead; how does ASCE 7 view these braces with respect to seismic requirements?

Are they viewed as just a "diaphragm comprised of bracing" or would they need to fit within a SFRS category and satisfy all those requirements in example SCBF?

RE: Roof Braced Frames Replacing Diaphragm - ASCE 7 Seismic Force Resisting System

I've always viewed horizontal bracing as chords/collectors and designed for the applicable code provisions. For example depending on the seismic design category the collectors (or horizontal braces) may need to be designed for overstrength.

It would be considered a truss diaphragm see AISC 341-16 section B5.2 for requirements.

Thanks, that section wasn't in the AISC 341-10 sitting on my desk...found it online.
