UL listing for HV equipment

UL listing for HV equipment

UL listing for HV equipment

(OP)
Hello,

I have a requirement from my client to have all equipment in a 69KV outdoor Switch-yard be UL listed. However, I coudln't find any outdoor products in the market with an UL or Recognized UL mark. Some of the vendors I contacted, said they cant supply. I'm bit confused if really UL certification is taken by vendors for HV products same as LV/indoor products?, not required? Is there anything I'm missing?

Can anybody share their views on this?

Thanks in advance.

RE: UL listing for HV equipment

Is there a UL standard that covers the product you are searching for? No suitable standard = no listed product.

RE: UL listing for HV equipment

As far as I knew, UL stops at 15kV.

thanks for your responses. I could see UL requirements defined in their white book for some voltages above 34.5KV. Also for example, see this link http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT....

However I couldn't find any "listed" product from any of the vendors. I am just curious to understand the reason behind them not available.

RE: UL listing for HV equipment

So you want listed instrument transformers? It appears at least one manufacturer had UL certify their product following the relavent IEEE standards.

Saying "69KV outdoor Switch-yard" doesn't narrow down what you're searching for. Again, see my first answer but lets expand it. If there are no generally accepted North American standards (UL, CSA, IEEE, NEMA) to follow then it's not likely that a product can be UL listed.

thank you. I got this now. Since there are no generally acceptable standards, there are no UL listing for certain products.

RE: UL listing for HV equipment

Yes, the UL mark means the product meets the requirements of one or more relevant standards.

RE: UL listing for HV equipment

I think you'll find that most of the equipment in your switch yard is in fact covered by IEEE and/or NEMA standards.
