Concrete-steel anchors that require only single-side access

Concrete-steel anchors that require only single-side access

(OP)
Hi all,

I'm working on a project where a building's facade system is to be connected to a slab which rests on steel I girders. The designers had initially recommended an HAC-50 type anchor system (see image below). Trouble is, the slab in question is only 60mm thick (no idea how or why but the thing is cast and we're stuck with it now) so the HAC system can't be used. As if this weren't enough, access to the underside of the slab is also restricted.

We're toying with the idea of using hollo-bolt type anchors but I'm not too sure about them in this instance (all examples I see on the web are about them connecting two plates while in this instance there is a substantially thick layer of concrete between the 'plates').

Are there any other types of anchors that would be useful here ? My experience in this regard is limited so I'd really appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance !

RE: Concrete-steel anchors that require only single-side access

For US people, 60mm = 2 3/8"

I'm not familiar with HAC-50. But for connection to the thin slab, powder fasteners or concrete anchor screws (3/8" dia hilti kwik hus?) may work. For connection to the steel beam, it may be best to core-drill a larger hole, connect to steel, and grout infill.

I think that the concrete thickness is beyond the hollo/blind bolt range. But we've specified blind bolts for multiple projects and the contractor chose the alternate, which was tapping holes.
