Material Identification

(OP)
What does 384/80/19 stand for? I know 384 is aluminum, but i'm having trouble identifying the other two numbers. I'm using a Niton Analyzer and the material i'm shooting is A356. Is this the same as 384/80/19?

RE: Material Identification

A356 is for Steel Castings, Carbon, Low Alloy, and Stainless Steel, Heavy-Walled for Steam Turbines
In A356, grade 6 has a minimum of 80 ksi UTS and 18.0% elongation. Although those numbers match closely, grade 8 is a 1%C, 1%Mo, Va alloy. I dont htink it has anything to do aluminum.

RE: Material Identification

A356 is indeed a variety of cast aluminum. ASTM A356 deals with cast steel.

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.
