Solar tracker

(OP)
Hello colleagues,

I'm trying to make a structural analysis and design for the solar tracking system, the conceptual design is as per the attached picture, I'm trying to design the columns & tubes.

At the top of each column there'll be a bearing, the central column will be attached to linear actuator, I have assumed that the induced load from the actuator (to rotate the tube) will be equal to 28 KN on a lever arm of 0.7 m.

Another small loads will be as concentrated loads equal to 0.5 KN per each point.

So the overall load on the tube will be flexural & torsional loads.

My questions:
1. how the load will be distributed on the tube? I assumed that the load will be as concentrated moment at that node equals to: 28KN x 0.7m= 19.6KN.m
2. what is the torsion force that will reach the outer columns?
3. Will these loads affect the size of central column?
4. Special connecting parts will help in mounting the actuator into the structure, will this minimize the loads received to the central column?

Appreciating your assistance.
Thanks.

RE: Solar tracker

If I'm understanding you correctly:

1. Yes, a concentrated moment that results in torsion in your beam "tube".
2. Presuming theoretically perfect bearings, and a symmetric system, 1/2 to each end.
3. The opposite reaction of the torsional moment on the beam tube is a non-torsional moment applied to the top of the central column. This will affect (probably drive) your design of that column and its foundation.
4. I don't know what special parts you're envisioning, but statics are statics and must be resolved.
