CMU Building Life Expectancy & Acid Exposure

CMU Building Life Expectancy & Acid Exposure

CMU Building Life Expectancy & Acid Exposure

(OP)
Looking for any suggestions on research done commonly expected life expectancy of a CMU bearing wall structures. The building in question was constructed in 1970's in southeastern US and the block is exposed to the elements. I realize life expectancy will be highly dependent on maintenance and environmental exposure but I need a general place to start...

Separately, looking for any suggestions on research done on degradation of CMU wall when exposed to acid vapor over prolonged period.

RE: CMU Building Life Expectancy & Acid Exposure

CMU does not hold up well to acidic environments and most likely would need a coating system. CMU is constructed using concrete with a high pH value and is readily corroded by an acidic environment. You need to provide a protective coating.
