Seismic D Lateral Force Resisting System

Seismic D Lateral Force Resisting System

Seismic D Lateral Force Resisting System

(OP)
Attached is a concept for a lateral force system being proposed for seismic design category D. The structure is being categorized an eccentric braced frame. My concern in the portion of the canopy column cantilevered and its possible violation of SDC D structures and proper R-value assignment. Would the outlined design approach be valid for this type of structure?

1) Sizes Braces, foundations and connection for an R=8 Steel eccentrically braced frame
2) Design top portion of column as a Steel special cantilever Frame (R = 2 1/2), will verify of HSS can be used in the application, thinking W-Shape may be required.

One thing to consider is a "majority" of the load will be anchored to the cross member at the top of the braces, seismic loading above will be to only roof deck and self weight of roof framing.

Thanks in advance for any help on this topic.

RE: Seismic D Lateral Force Resisting System

The structure should not be categorized as an EBF in the first place, as what is shown is a OCBF or SCBF.
