How to determine support bearing surface length?

How to determine support bearing surface length?

How to determine support bearing surface length?

(OP)
Hi there,

How would you go about calculating a suitable length for the bearing area of a slab, as shown in the diagram? For clarity the slab shown in the image is connected to a down-stand beam.

RE: How to determine support bearing surface length?

It's usually calculated on the basis of bearing stress requirements and practical minimums as specified in your code.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

RE: How to determine support bearing surface length?

Is this precast construction or cast-in-place construction where the slab is bearing on a beam at an expansion joint?
Not sure what you mean by slab is "connected" to a down-stand beam?
