Superflat concrete in walled room.

Superflat concrete in walled room.

Superflat concrete in walled room.

(OP)
I need to place a very flat concrete slab to be polished, but it must be placed in a room with 4 concrete walls, placed up to the wall edges to ultimately be polished to the wall edges.
We always used formwork to set levels, screed and tamp, but if it must be flush with concrete walls how can we screed and tamp?

Slab Thickness: 150 mm (6 inches).
Area: 8m x 12m (26 ft x 40 ft) rectangular room.

Great thanks for any advice!

RE: Superflat concrete in walled room.

Remove walls.
Place and polish slab.
Replace walls.

Details are just logistics. winky smile

RE: Superflat concrete in walled room.

Why superflat? The room seems to be too small for anything that would require that type of finish? Any sawcuts? 0.5% or 0.6% reinforcing?

should have added... I like Mike's solution... it's doable...

RE: Superflat concrete in walled room.

Can you use a steel form against the walls and leave it in place?

RE: Superflat concrete in walled room.

Leave out a pour strip around the perimeter of the room. Pour the interior portion first then use the first pour as a cantilevered screed for your second pour.

RE: Superflat concrete in walled room.

I like DETstru's idea. Not sure how wide the "picture frame" would need to be, but your client might go for it.

MotorCity's idea won't solve your problem, and will just lead to cracking of the thin perimeter section.

RE: Superflat concrete in walled room.

Why not fix a strip level on the wall (wood, steel etc) above your floor then use a C section fixed to the top of your tamping bar which you've cut to exactly the right width of the room? Basically the same as you do now but hanging down from a fixeded position instead of pressing down into the formwork.

Remember - More details = better answers

RE: Superflat concrete in walled room.

I don't think placement of the concrete is a big issue, but don't believe there is any way you can polish all the way to the wall.

RE: Superflat concrete in walled room.

Why not use a finish/coating... concrete 'dulls' with use.
