Property Line Wall,Elevator Shaft Wall Mat Footing Design

Property Line Wall,Elevator Shaft Wall Mat Footing Design

(OP)
Hi

I am an EIT working at an structural engineering office. I am trying to design a mat footing for a new elevator shaft of an existing building. Should I take seismic into account or not ? What is the way to design it ? I just need some help to figure out how to design it. Thank you so much. Please see attached ..

RE: Property Line Wall,Elevator Shaft Wall Mat Footing Design

If the building will need this new shaft in order to successfully resist seismic loads, then I'd design the the footing for those loads. If not, I likely would just design for gravity loads and let the shaft go along for the ride.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Thanks for your response @KootK. How can I design it only for the gravity loads ? Since there are walls sitting all around the mat footing ..
It is confusing..

Thank you,

Design the footing for the the loads imposed by those walls.
