ASTM A 672 SAW

ASTM A 672 SAW

ASTM A 672 SAW

(OP)
The ASTM A 672 is applicable for ERW pipe. Is it possible to purchase a SAW version of this pipe. Seems to be that some supplier are able to do it.
Is that in contradiction with the ASTM standard that in principle is valid only for ERW?

Let me know your experience about.

Thanks in advance

RE: ASTM A 672 SAW

Yes, ASME SA 672 is for fusion welded pipe with filler metal. The title is below;
Standard Specification for Electric-Fusion-Welded Steel Pipe for High-Pressure Serviceat Moderate Temperatures

This means a welding process like SAW, FCAW or SMAW or GTAW. See the Scope below

Scope
1.1 This specification covers steel pipe: electric-fusion welded
with filler metal added, fabricated from pressure-vessel
quality plate of any of several analyses and strength levels and
suitable for high-pressure service at moderate temperatures.
Heat treatment may or may not be required to attain the desired
properties or to comply with applicable code requirements.
Supplementary requirements are provided for use when additional
testing or examination is desired.

The ERW process is not applicable under this specification. ASTM A 53 carries ERW pipe.
