Hi!

I am designing 3 story building 32,9 meters long and 15.4 wide. The idea is to use hollow core slabs supported by solid CMU walls. According to manufacturer of concrete blocks, control joints should be placed at 9m from corners and each 18m. This means I need 2 control joints along building length and 1 joint along width.
The problem is with CMU walls joining hollow core slabs - as far as I understand I need to make some kind of slip joint between HCS slab and masonry wall at each level for control joints to function properly. At the same time I plan to use masonry walls as shear walls and floors as diaphragms transferring wind forces to shear walls - therefore I need a joint capable of transferring shear forces between HCS slabs and masonry walls.

The question is - if I will make non-slip joint between slab and masonry wall, will control joints still function?

45' is a long span for HC slab... what thickness are you using? Is the building heated and enclosed? You should be able to space the HC and CMU joints in the same location because the modular dimensions are similar, if that's an issue... I would locate the first joints at half the spacing from the corners. Do your walls have openings? Door/Window?

Thank You for Your replay.
There are 2 internal load bearing walls parallel to longest side of a building, so that HCS spans are 6,3 - 2,8 - 6,3 meters. Building will be heated and enclosed, with openings in walls (Doors Windows) - residential building. So if I understand You correctly - there also should be a movement joint in the floor structure where control joints are located in CMU walls? And what about foundation - movement joint at the same location?
The issue is that I am not sure how to connect HCS slab to masonry wall. Should it look somthing like detail attached?
