We are splicing column to top of existing column full pin welds what type of load would that beregarding RT acceptacne criteria per D1.1.
The column have a flange of .5" and welding with E7018.

The column being spliced for additional height on a existing pipe rack. That will have load beans added for additional pipe.

DCMV:
It seems to me that you are going at this problem bass-ackwards. What are all of the new loads which are going to be added/applied to the existing pipe rack? Can the existing structure carry the added new loads? The max. compression and bending loads are likely down near the base. Do you have drawings and specs. for the existing pipe rack, so that you know enough about it to be able to analyze these add new loads applied to the structure? Then finally, what do the new structure parts and their connections have to look like to make this work up at that level? How do you know you need full pen. welds to add length/height to the existing rack legs for another pipe level? You probably don’t need full pen. welds at this height and for some added loads. Full pen. welds done properly will meet the full strength of the existing columns. What does RT (rigorous titillation) have to do with it?
