GPW for rebars

GPW for rebars

GPW for rebars

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I'm being asked to look for a US or european standard for welding 2 rebars as you can see in this video:

Link

The method is called Gas Pressure Welding and in some cases they use another one called Flash Welding. In my case I need a method suitable for site works.

In the same website they refer to the japanese standard NO.JIS Z 3881 but as I said before I'm looking for the american equivalent (or european)

Thanks!

RE: GPW for rebars

Check out the AWS D1.4 code - it governs steel rebar welding in the US. Most rebar to be welded in the US is specified to meet ASTM A706 requirements, as it is more easily welded than the typical A615 rebar.

RE: GPW for rebars

I am unaware of any American standard. As Thaidavid mentioned, AWS D1.4 typically governs welding of structural reinforcing steel in the US, commonly through reference by the ACI codes. Flash butt welding is not a recognized process in AWS D1.4.

If I recall (based on informal discussions with committee members), there was some discussion over inclusion in the future, but there was limited historical data to argue a basis for it, and significant concerns over its performance (or lack thereof) based on typical CE's of rebar materials and the associated rapid cooling rates.
