Curves not selectable

Curves not selectable

Curves not selectable

(OP)
When I create few curves (curve ribbon) and try to use extrude with selection Region boundary curve,I can't select anything.Any idea why is this,I use NX 9?

RE: Curves not selectable

It seems only Sketch curves are selectable using this option.
Do not know why.

Regards,
Tomas

RE: Curves not selectable

I am able to select faces using NX 9.0.2.5 - the boundary probably has to be closed in order for it to be selectable.

RE: Curves not selectable

Does Feature Curves work? If so, use that.

RE: Curves not selectable

- there is not much we can do about this.
I have confirmed that I see the same behavior as you do.
All you can do next is use a different selection method, and submit an Enhancement Request to GTAC.

Tomas

RE: Curves not selectable

I think that the region boundary option is only intended to be used on sketch curves. If this is the case, it seems to be an oversight that this option is selectable outside of a sketch. I'd suggest contacting GTAC. Either the selection is not working or the option should be disabled when it is not applicable.

Here's what help said

Quote (Selects a section enclosing an area (a profile). In most cases, you can make the selection with a single click. The enclosed area can be bounded by curves, edges, or both. If you select: a sketch, only curves in that sketch determine the region boundary.
a sketch that is on a datum plane, only the curves in that sketch determine the region boundary. multiple sketches on the face of a solid, all curves in those sketches determine the region boundary.)

There is nothing explicit about only sketch selection with this option.Anyway, thanks for your help.

RE: Curves not selectable

I agree that it does not come right out and say "this can only be used on sketches", but it is implied in the wording for the selection. Only sketches are mentioned in the selection step.

Quote:

  • a sketch...
  • a sketch that is on a datum plane...
  • multiple sketches...
(Emphasis mine)

RE: Curves not selectable

I agree that this curve rule probably isn't working as intended but I do not feel the intent is to be limited to just sketch curves due to the wording PRIOR to the 3 examples given

Quote:

"The enclosed area can be bounded by curves, edges or both".
Edges do not imply sketch geometry, and probably why I was able to select a number of different faces using that particular Curve Rule. Granted, splitting hairs here but the wording and examples in the documentation aren't helping clarify it any better since it can be interpreted differently.

Also, think about the inputs allowed for defining an Extrude profile - the Curve Rules generally don't limit selection to just one type of section string/profile like a Sketch - there are usually multiple types of section strings that are allowed to be selected under any single Curve Rule - and a Region Boundary can be defined in more ways than just inside a Sketch.

Just wanted to clarify my previous input to the topic, not debate intent of a broken command.
