Corrosion analysis/ monitoring methods

Corrosion analysis/ monitoring methods

Corrosion analysis/ monitoring methods

(OP)
I'm looking for ways to analyze signs of corrosion.
At the moment i'm using the ORP/pH- meter to measure te difference in ORP during corrosion.
Point is that i'm looking for a better way to measure this.

Any suggestions?

Note: The potentiostat is a big investment, and i'm not a electro engineer, so it would not be used to it's full potential.

RE: Corrosion analysis/ monitoring methods

Honeywell sells on on-line corrosion monitor. I believe it outputs multiple variables.

We used Sentry corrosion samplers at the last utility I worked at:

Our water chemistry group swore by them.

Something like the Sentry Corrosion sampler is excactly what i'm looking for.

The only problem, as far is i understood the tool, it can only be used for water?

I think the on-line corrosion monitoring by honeywell is more industry related. As i'm doing laboratory research this might not be realistic.

Further suggestions are welcome.

Does anyone think that electrochemical noise monitoring is suited?

Not sure, but we only used them to analyze the steam/condensate cycle, so yes, we ran water through them. Contact Sentry, they make stuff to sample liquids, gases, powders, etc. Maybe they have options to use the corrosion analyzer with other working fluids.

What is the fluid you want to analyze?

RE: Corrosion analysis/ monitoring methods

I want to analyze different fluids and materials.
We're trying to make a standard in corrosion in relation to material/chemical combination, because in chemical cleaning the biggest problem is solving the contamination, but also causing corrosion to the material.

RE: Corrosion analysis/ monitoring methods

If you are doing this in a lab or test setting them a full potentiostat will be the most useful.
They are cheap compared to 10 years ago and they have a lot more functionality.
You don't need a research grade one, or one with 50 channels, or high current so the price is very reasonable.
Here is your chance to learn something new.
