Capacitive Voltage Divider Insulator
Capacitive Voltage Divider Insulator
(OP)
Recently we have a failure of a support insulator in the secondary bank cubicle of an outdoor type metalclad switchgear. The insulator which is an epoxy resin type provides support to the busbar where the power cable terminates. An electrical discharge chipped of the side portion of the insulator up to the middle part. Upon our examination, the cause may be partial discharge due to epoxy resin voids inside the insulator. Since the insulator is capacitive voltage divider type, can we replace it with a standard post insulator type to avoid a hollow portion inside the resin insulation. Additionally, what standards requires the use of capacitive voltage divider insulator in the power cable termination of the switchgear.

If it is a medium voltage like 33, 11, 6.6 kV etc. we should go for the simple cast resin insulator. I have not come across the capacitive divider insulator. Please check whether this is the capacitive divider Voltage Transformer?
