High volume localized passivation of welds in stainless steel

High volume localized passivation of welds in stainless steel

(OP)
Hi,
Does someone has some experience in high volume localized passivation of welds in stainless steel ?
We manufacture products for the automotive industry where welded stainless steel is present. It is large parts with only little welds. We aim to locally passivate the welds instead of dipping the whole thing in acid pools.

Thank you

RE: High volume localized passivation of welds in stainless steel

There are electrochemical methods that use a pad that is dampened with a mild acid and applying an electrical current. This is an efficient spot method, though you will still need to rinse the parts.

Thank you EdStainless,
Actually, the rep. from WalterSurface is here next monday to show the Surfox304 that does exactly this.
I'm scared tough that this technology is not ready for use in mass production environment. I am talking about a total of 1.2km of weld per day... Looking forward testing it.

RE: High volume localized passivation of welds in stainless steel

Will this be done robotic?
You may need multiple ones running at once.
They do a good job.
