creating a helix with a guide curve????

creating a helix with a guide curve????

creating a helix with a guide curve????

(OP)
Hello all,
i have a 2 ft section of hose swept along a guide curve from a basic circle sketch.  (imagine a curvy section of garden hose)
What i would like to do is create small cut on the outside of the hose, and have it follow a spiral pattern along the entire hose.  The standard create helix command does not let you use a guide curve.

Can anyone throw me a bone here?

Thanks

RE: creating a helix with a guide curve????

You want to cut a spiral pattern along a helical coiled hose?
What kind of sick puppy are you
Kidding aside, spiral patterns aren't possible in my experience - much less a spiral pattern on a helical sweep.
I have an enhancement request for this in the works - so when we get it you all know who to thank.
Sorry, Gerry, no bones today...

RE: creating a helix with a guide curve????

I am a little unsure of what your describing.  I think you just need to convert your helix into a 3D Sketch.  I modelled perforated tubing that has a helical pattern.

can you toss me a model or a method of how you created your 3d helical tube?

Thanks

Gerry

RE: creating a helix with a guide curve????

Sorry for the late reply.

I couldn't get a hold of the file.  Here's the steps I used.

Make your cylindrical part.
Make a Cut Extrude in one direction.

Make a new sketch and convert entities of you out circle edge.
Create the helix.
Make a new 3D sketch and convert entities of the helix.
Do a curve driven pattern, Direction (3D Sketch), Offset Curve, Tangent to Curve, Features to Patter (Cut Extrude).

I used SW2000, its picky on what face the circle was drawn on and may not do the pattern.

Sorry ahead for the confusion :).
