Connecting shear stud to steel section

Connecting shear stud to steel section

Connecting shear stud to steel section

(OP)
Hi,

In the real world, steel shear studs are welded to the steel section surface. In ABAQUS, I represented the steel section (I-section) as follow:
Upper flange (shell element)
Lower flange (shell element)
Web (shell element)
merged the above parts to form the I-section
Stud (beam element)
ALL ARE THE SAME MATERIAL PROPERTIES

Now, could you please suggest how to connect the stud to the upper flange surface to simulate the welding in the real world. I will suppose that the welding is as strong as the stud and the steel section.
I tried all the Constraints type. None worked. I think it is because all constraints deal with surfaces only and are not applied to beam element.
