Correction factor C3 in Schmermtann method for settlements

Correction factor C3 in Schmermtann method for settlements

(OP)
Hi everyone. I'm an italian engineering student (sorry for may bad english). I need to clarify a question that i can't solve.
In Schmertmann's formula for estimate the settlement in granular soil by CPT results, some books report only two correction factors: C1 (depth of embedment) and C2 (creep). Other books report further correction factor: C3, but there is disagreement on this. I found indeed two different expression:

a) C3 = 1.03 - 0.03 * L/B > 0.73 (Donald P. Coduto, Foundation Design Principles and Practis, Prentice Hall, 2000 (2nd edition), pag. 235; Jie Han, Principles and practice of ground improvements, Wiley, 2015, pag. 52)

b) C3
= 1.00 [circular footings]
= 1.25 [square footings]
= 1.75 [strip footings]

from Guide to cone penetretion testing, 6th edition, pag. 68.

So, I'm confused...In his pubblications (1970, 1978), Schmertmann doesn't indicate any shape correction factor called "C3" (or I haven't seen).

Anyone knows something about these two correction factors?

Thanks.
