Dear forum users,

now I have to ask you to help me, because I was not able to find an answer for my question/problem. I will describe my task briefly:

I try to perform a modal analysis of a shaft-bearing system with ANSYS Workbench 16. My rotor is supported on one side with two fixed bearings, which means that translation DOF's in radial and axial are fixed. The other end of the rotor is supported by two floating bearings, so the bearing is allowed to move in axial direction of the shaft. To simulate the bearings I am using the COMBI214 elements. I have entered the radial stiffness (K11=K22=K12=K21) to have isotropic bearing behaviour. My shaft is sliced in pieces, precisely I sliced my shaft at positions where the cross section changes sharply and at positions of the bearing planes, for sure. All shaft pieces are bonded together with the linear contact "bonded". The slicing of the shaft allows me to use a sweep mesh.

Now to insert the COMBI214 elements I have scoped them to the bearing planes (cross section of the shaft). Now, and this is the part where I am unsure, I have promoted the floating bearings to remote points, where I have selected the DOFs manually. In this case: I have set the DOF in radial directions (X and Y) to inactive but the axial direction (Z) active. Is this the right way to simulate a floating bearing behaviour for a COMBIN214 bearing element ?

Please search Undamped Rotor Dynamic Analysis (Modal Analysis) using ANSYS Workbench 16 from Sapan patel. I hope you will have your answer.
