Hi Everyone
I am new user of this site and hope to get help from all of you.

Problem : we are constructing a hydro-power project at which bearing capacity of soil in the area of pen-stock alignment was test was carried out which is very low but there is no alternative alignment. What are the cheap and easier methods to increase bearing capacity?

Can we ask designer to increase footing area of structures?

Hoping for suggestions.

Thanks

RE: Hi Everyone I am new user of this

You can maybe go deeper to better soil (excavate and backfill) or provide larger foundations. It is important to know why it is bad soil. This is a conversation that has to happen with the EOR and geotech already involved with the project. Do not try to fix it yourself.

RE: Hi Everyone I am new user of this

As engineeringeric noted, you need the EoR and Geotech involved ASAP. Because of the critical structural component you need to find out why and effect a solution. It may not be as simple as increasing the foundation size...

Sometimes the cheapest way ends up being the most expensive. An experienced geotech engineer is required.
