Hello

I am fresher for pressure vessel design .

If MAWP is limited by flange ( class#150 ) and client has no issue with that since they do not want to change it to 300# , can I do wrc analysis 297 in this case to verify shell thickness ( If MAWP is limited by flange ) ???

What do you mean that it "fails" because of the flange?

If you mean that it fails an equivalent pressure check, use PVP2013-97814.

WRC 297 determines stresses at the shell-to-nozzle junction (this bulletin explicitly considers...and only...a cylindrical [hollow] nozzle neck on a cylindrical shell) due to loads applied to the nozzle neck. The presence of the flange has no effect on this calculation. Also, the particular characteristic of the internal pressure applied is immaterial...it can be design pressure, MAWP, MAP, etc, the calculated stresses are a function of the pressure as well as the shell and nozzle dimensions.
