Change Frames connection

Change Frames connection

(OP)
Hi guys,
I'm having a problem while meshing frames.
As shown in the picture, the rectangular frame is connected in the web of the U section.
Is there any way to connect it on the top flange of the U section?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Change Frames connection

Hi,
First select the U section, then:
Assign -> Frame -> Insertion point, and select Cardinal point 8 (Top center).

RE: Change Frames connection

Hi all,
Sorry if I have a dumb question. I don't understand why Mr bertol need to adjust insertion point and how this adjustion shall affect to the analysis result.
Thx for helps.

RE: Change Frames connection

Hi Danny,
I can't speak for bertol, but there are a couple of scenarios where you could want or need to make this adjustement:
1. To take into account the real eccentricity of the joint in the calculation.
2. To show the relative position of both frames but without considering the eccentricity of the joint. In this case you have to select the option "Do not transform frame stiffnessfor offsets from centroid": You´ll just get a aesthetic implementation without any further impact in the calculation.
I hope this clarifies your doubt. If you need more details you can consult the SAP manual.
