A number per QW-442 (ER70S-6)
A number per QW-442 (ER70S-6)
(OP)
If I write ER70S-6 as A number 1 in WPS but haven't done chemical in PQR and don't have the same shielding gas as that of manufacturer of consumable, just referencing the AWS classification will do or not in WPS?
The following is the customer's comment
"The Er70S-6 filler metal classification permits Mn & Si content greater than QW-442, A-1, allowable. As per QW 405.5, for the ER70S-6 classification filler metal, WPS shall mention Mn<=1.6% and Si<=1% to ensure conformance of the deposited weld metal composition with the ASME Sec IX, Table QW-442 A-1 requiremtns"

RE: A number per QW-442 (ER70S-6)
AS per QW-405.5, you can also use filler metal certificate from manufacturer to report A number.
refer below clause QW-405.5 (b)
"(b) For SMAW, GTAW, and PAW — from the chemical analysis of the weld deposit prepared according to the
filler metal specification, or from the chemical composition as reported either in the filler metal specification or the manufacturer’s or supplier’s certificate of compliance."
If your filler is meeting requirement of A number 1, then you can always specify requirements (Mn<=1.6% and Si<=1%) in WPS.

Please note in our case the shielding case composition is different from that used by the manufacturer.
