Allowable Axial load increase on a column ?
Allowable Axial load increase on a column ?
(OP)
The original column was designed to support 344,500 #, however the new load on this column will be almost 393,000 #.
Would the column be okay for the new load (larger)?
Whats allowable increase in the load?
The column as you guessed is a reinforced concrete column which has capital on top.
I appreciate for you directions and advice

RE: Allowable Axial load increase on a column ?
You need to assess the capacity of the column and compare it to the new load to see if it is sufficient without upgrading.
There's no way to know how much 'fat' the column was designed with until you do the calculation.
RE: Allowable Axial load increase on a column ?
You never know when a former engineer perhaps messed up and your additional load could be "the straw that broke the camel's back".

RE: Allowable Axial load increase on a column ?
Reminds me of our council tree policy. It is strictly forbidden to cut down trees, but you can prune up to 10% at a time without asking, and trees below a certain height can be cut down freely
