Concrete Crack

Concrete Crack

Concrete Crack

(OP)
Does the crack in the attached picture pose a structural concern? I did a septic system design for a client and he has asked me about the crack but I don't have much experience with concrete cracks. Thanks for the advice.

RE: Concrete Crack

What is the context? Pic just shows a crack. What is cracked?.....slab?..septic tank cover?....Tank?

Give us a bit more info

RE: Concrete Crack

(OP)
Crack is in a *' concrete foundation wall that was poured a week ago.

RE: Concrete Crack

Concrete shrinks. Cracks form.

RE: Concrete Crack

looks like it was poured more than a week ago, anyway, as oldestguy said concrete cracks.

RE: Concrete Crack

One more factor: The mixes that have a lot of water in them shrink more than those placed very stiff. I've seen roadway concrete develop cracks within an hour after being placed.

RE: Concrete Crack

Is that a form joint? or what? Is the crack in the middle of the wall? What concrete mix was used... strength and slump. What type of foundation?

Crack can be repaired using epoxy injection of if it's just a matter of sealing the crack you can use polyurethane.

RE: Concrete Crack

I see a void beneath the wall and a roxkery to the left.

Could be shrinkage, but the crack is wider at the top than the bottom implying rotational settlement to me.

Need a broader view (PICTURE) of the situation...

Otherwise patch and sack and monitor.
