BRITISH & EUROCODE
BRITISH & EUROCODE
(OP)
Can anyone enlighten me about the difference between BS EN 1993 to EN 1993 or they are just the same? Thank you in advance
When was the last time you drove down the highway without seeing a commercial truck hauling goods?

RE: BRITISH & EUROCODE
BS EN is the UK Standard accepted by the UK Government : is exactly the same without any modification (in Italy is the same as EN but translated in Italian)
If UK wants to add something more, UK can issue an "addendum" and this is ruling only in UK

Each country has its particularities, which are all described in the national annexes.

RE: BRITISH & EUROCODE
EN 1993 is the European Standard. Then Britain made a British Standard and added BS, it is the same with all countries that use Eurocode.
Actually, to be specific there is no BS EN 1993. It is BS EN 1993-1-1, BS EN 1993-1-2 and so on
The Eurocode has parameters that each country can select. Those parameters can be found in the National Annexes. In can be a question of selection one of several described calculation methods in the standard. It can also be a question of given a specific value, like the snow load. In some cases the national annexes has been included in the standards.
I would not recommend using the Eurocode without also using the valid national annex.
Regarding Brexit, from what I have heard it will not influence the British use of Eurocode.
Best Regards
Thomas
RE: BRITISH & EUROCODE
Yes,
- it is important to use the local National Annex as this controls a lot of the factors used in design formulae
- my understanding (from a BS representative on Eurocodes committees) is that the adoption of Eurocodes by British Standards is completely independent of membership of the EU. Any country can adopt Eurocodes and participate in their development if they are willing to pay for the privilege. BS decided to do this, presumably to save development costs, many years ago.
