Intermediate stiffening rings for storage tanks

(OP)
Hi All

I am working with a fabricator who prefers the use of rectangular section stiffeners made from plate.

My question is that this is not shown on Figure 5.24—Typical Stiffening-ring Sections for Tank Shells . This shows bent up sections and angles.

Is this acceptable to use this type of stiffener if it meets the section properties required by the code?

Regards
Mike

RE: Intermediate stiffening rings for storage tanks

See 5.9.2, which seems to allow some latitude in the shapes used, not just those in the table.
Note the requirement in 5.9.5 and the similar limitation on Le, Figure F.2, Note 3, which is of similar geometry.
