installing Acad2002 & Acad2000i at the same time

installing Acad2002 & Acad2000i at the same time

installing Acad2002 & Acad2000i at the same time

(OP)
Does anyone know if it is possible to install both AutoCAD 2000i and AutoCAD 2002 on the same machine at the same time???

If anyone has seen this work please let me know how.

RE: installing Acad2002 & Acad2000i at the same time

I currently have R14, 2000i, 2002, and Mechanical 6 installed on my machine, which is running W2K Pro.  I have just installed each application in their own discreet folders.

The only tricky thing is - whatever Acad app I last run becomes the default for file associations.  This hasn't been much of an issue, because I only use R14 (WMF print driver "plots" metafile to clipboard) and 2002 (preferred WMF print driver doesn't work for 2002).

Well thats good news, it can be done.  Now the real question is how?  Are you running stand alone or a Network version?  Were you prompted to remove the Acad 2000i when you installed Acad 2002?

RE: installing Acad2002 & Acad2000i at the same time

I suspect that tluxon is mistaken or he is doing something that is a bit complicated and not explaining it.  I would like to hear how you got this to work.

I to have run into the inability to install 2000 and 2002 at the same time.  This is because while the registry entries are all named the same and contained in the same key location.

To play around with the problem, I exported the registry entries for 2000i and then copied the directory 2000i was in to a new location so that the upgrade did not do bad things to it.

Next I did a comparison of the registry after 2002 was installed vs the reg with 2000i.  I used a hex editor for this, but do not remember which one off the top of my head.

Before I used 2000i or 2002 I imported the registry settings for which ever version of AutoCAD I was using.

This was really complicated and gave up with it to sitck with 2002.

If tluxon will detail out the methods that he used to install multiple copies I would like to here it.

RE: installing Acad2002 & Acad2000i at the same time

Sorry it took so long for me to check on this thread.

I can't remember exactly what I did other than install the applications on different drives.  I currently have R14, 2000i, 2002, Mech6, Inventor, and SolidWorks all installed at the same time and they all work.

That being said, I can't get 2000i and 2002 to run at the same time, but I often have R14 and 2002 running at the same time.

RE: installing Acad2002 & Acad2000i at the same time

You are out of luck then.  As I said the registry entries are in the same location and while concurrent installations are possible, running concurrent instances of the two applications at the same time is neigh impossible.

Why so you need to work in both at the same time?  While I know that there are differences the backwards compatibility between 2000 and 2002 is near 100%.  If it were me I would just stick with 2002.

I had an issue where a few Cad operators wanted time to "adjust" to both versions.  I have since found out that both 2000i and 2002 use the same revision number. R15 so its really a mute point I suppose.

Autodesk did not make an upgrade but rather just an update.  I have no clue why they changed the name when there are really no new features.

By the way I have had no issues with 2002 since I installed it, "alone".  The transition has been pretty smooth.

Thanks all for the help,
Phil
