Intemediate User unable to make simple dimension!

(See Image) I don't have to make these very often however whenever I do I end up stumped for solutions. Simple pick of two points does not yield parallel dimension to geometry. I only get vertical and horizontal to sheet options when placing. What am I missing?

RE: Intemediate User unable to make simple dimension!

Don't use a Rapid Dimension, use a Linear Dimension and change it to Point to Point. You may have to specify the Measurement Direction as well. IMO pretty much a regression compared to what dimensioning used to be before it was "improved".

A movie attached below for your reference.

Your solution worked. I always assumed rapid dimension point to point option was the same as linier point to point. Your video clarified that for me very well. Thank you very much.

Yeah, sometimes the "improvements" aren't what they seem or what their chosen names lead users to believe or assume.
