Design Code for decanting tank with conic bottom ?

Design Code for decanting tank with conic bottom ?

Hi all,

I will to design a decanting tank will the next specs:
Outside Diameter= 3m
Heigth= 6.7m
Bottom= conic bottom with 45° to 60°
Support type= legs support
Operating Temperature= ambient
Operating pressure= athmosphere
Fluid service= slurry (Lime + water)

My question is , with this specs what is the code to design the tank, ASME BPVC div 1 or API code design or another that you could recomend?

thanks in advance

RE: Design Code for decanting tank with conic bottom ?

For your small tank in this light duty, you should invoke API-650 for materials, joints and welding quality etc.

Make sure that you select a fabricator with API-650 experience (many, many people can fabricate these small tanks)

Pay attention to your preferred tank access and coatings. Suggest that you specify 3/16 inch minimum thickness.

Thanks MJCronin,

Dont matter if my tank is supported by steel legs instead it is directly above the ground like the scope of API 650 says

thanks in advance again.

IMO, it's typical storage tank at atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature. And, make sure the adequate reinforcement in the cone bottom section and leg supports.

RE: Design Code for decanting tank with conic bottom ?

API 650 is not for tanks supported on legs, they must be uniformly supported on ground. I use API 620 for these types of tanks since it specifically covers conical bottom tanks. The important part is the design of the compression ring at the cone to cylinder junction. For atmospheric in this diameter, the top compression ring at the roof is almost obsolete but using a basic curb angle would likely be sufficient for most roof slopes. API 650 does cover roof buckling better if this is critical to your design.

Thanks everyone,
Reading the complete scope of the API 620, I see that is the solution that I am looking for.
thanks mk3223 and MJCronin for you advices, too.
