Help me out please - forces diagram

Help me out please - forces diagram

Help me out please - forces diagram

(OP)
I messed up my FEM software configuration and now I am getting results that are odd.

Can someone please put this datas in his software and post results he got: bending moment diagram, shear forces diagram and axial forces diagram.

I am desperate so I really hope someone helps me out and post results so I can make comparisons...

RE: Help me out please - forces diagram

pinned reactions (then simple) or fixed (then difficult, need more data) ?

RE: Help me out please - forces diagram

Your FEM model would typically take into account the stiffness and strength of each member. I.E. if your beam was majorly stiff compared to the columns, then there's the possibility that the beam eats a bunch of moment prior to dumping it into the columns.

In a perfect world where the beam and column have infinite stiffness I get the following

Axial Load

Moment

Shear

THANKS!

rb1957 - supports are fixed

and the internal joints too.

Why is FEA being used for such a simple structural arrangement?

RE: Help me out please - forces diagram

Why is the moment in upper right corner so small - is it because of long cantilever?

what would you suggestt?

RE: Help me out please - forces diagram

FEA would solve partial fixity at the corners (due to finite inertia of the members), else fully fixed corners can be solved by hand.

Col moment at top right would be similar to the beam moment, else, angular acceleration.

yes, the moment in the two members at the joint is the same, but it doesn't have to be the fully fixed value (which would say that the joint doesn't rotate) which is my assumption for the solution provided. If it's partially fixed (knowing the stiffness of the column and the beam) then the beam can have some finite slope at the joint and (maybe) there can be a change in angle between the beam and the column (due to their different stiffness, displacing differently due to the same applied moment); this is easiest solved with FEA.

Jayrod- just out of curiosity, what software package are you using?

RE: Help me out please - forces diagram

That was Risa2D.
