Happy 150th Birthday, Canada!

Happy 150th Birthday, Canada!

Happy 150th Birthday, Canada!

(OP)
As July the first dawns in the Eastern Standard Time Zone, let us Canadians give thanks for the many blessings we have received in this mostly peaceful place, and whether indigenous peoples or settlers, remember that the land where we live is a gift to us all, and that we are accountable for its care as well as benefiting from what it yields.

It is my hope that all Canadians may learn to work together for the common good, acknowledge the hurts and injustices of the past, address the areas where echoes of these injustices linger still, and honour and celebrate the positive parts of our shared heritage.

When we lived near Detroit, we used to go downtown and celebrate the 'birthdays' of both the US and Canada with a fireworks display between Detroit and Windsor over the Detroit River.

Thank you!
Looks like many of us could have our fireworks rained out, though

I know it sounds pompous, but "Best wishes, Canada".

Our fireworks for Canada Day are "sunnned out", as it doesn't get dark enough at a reasonable hour to make it worthwhile.

I don't know if I understand Canada's history correctly but seems like Canada had one of the slowest and peaceful transition to independence. If we work on them long enough, it will happen without them even knowing.

My local community organization (Bay of Islands Community Association or BICA) had a boat parade followed by a BYOB cocktail party and fireworks. From what I have heard it went off very well, sorry I couldn't make it. I fondly remember Expo '67 in Montreal for the centennial.

Only 9 more years until the US sestercentennial.
