Repair deformed stiffened steel plates

Repair deformed stiffened steel plates

Repair deformed stiffened steel plates

(OP)
I got these floor stiffened plates that covered a floor.
Size 26" x 40"
Stiffened by angles that I don't have the size of them

Is there a way to flatten the plates or nothing can be done?

To get flat surface can we cover to of plates with any material?

Thanks for direction

RE: Repair deformed stiffened steel plates

My first question would be why are they deformed? Are they adequate for the loading?

Jayrod 12,

They were built 1970, they been in an enclosed environment and rusted
There are covering a floor that MCC and Switchgears sitting on it and things from switchgear will be taken out and rolled over them

RE: Repair deformed stiffened steel plates

Would it not be more economical to just have new ones fabbed in the shop and then it's just a quick change out

jayrod12 (Structural),
I was seeking if there are cheaper ways to use what exists or see if we can make them work.

RE: Repair deformed stiffened steel plates

In my experience, and others with more experience may chime in, is the cost of refurbishing on site while in service is typically much higher than the work being done in a shop. It probably wouldn't hurt to have a steel supplier give you a unit price for both ideas.

RE: Repair deformed stiffened steel plates

jayrod is likely correct... Why have they corroded? and, is this the reason for their deformation? Most trenching covers I've encountered are loaded lightly, even though they are often designed for forklift or 100 psf loading.
