Online Wind Speed Calculator

Online Wind Speed Calculator

Online Wind Speed Calculator

(OP)
A while back, possibly in thread507-414024: Velocity Pressure Equation, I saw a link to an online wind speed calculator at http://windspeed.atcouncil.org/.
I've used it a few times, and found it very handy. But, the last 2 or 3 months, it has gotten slower and slower to respond, or took repeated attempts to get a response. Does anyone else use this site? If so, is it a site problem, or something I have going on with my computer? Are there any alternatives, other than back to the paper maps? Seems to be the same issue with either Internet Explorer or Chrome.

RE: Online Wind Speed Calculator

Just loaded the link and it seemed to be normal... Using Firefox... don't know if that matters... also, this morning before reading the post, ran CCleaner and cleaned up my Internet 'trash'.

RE: Online Wind Speed Calculator

That's why I download and install on my PC any software/doc I find useful : I am not stuck with the transformation of the net, whilst I have a complete/under completion "engineering handbook"

RE: Online Wind Speed Calculator

It's working fine for me on Chrome.

Along similar lines, someone recently posted a link to some solid online wind/snow/seismic calculators. Nominal subscription service I believe. Anybody know where I could find such a thing? The reports looked pretty slick.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

RE: Online Wind Speed Calculator

Koot,

Is there something about the USGS reports (both simple and detailed) that you don't like?

I have no input with whoever created that site, but I found their reports to be very useful.

RE: Online Wind Speed Calculator

@wineland: which USGS reports are you referring to? I only use this one. Perhaps I'm missing out on something good. The calculators that I mentioned above took things a bit further I think. Actually wind and seismic load generation as opposed to just environmental parameters.

@KootK,

That's the one I use.

And now I understand why you're looking for something more. smile

RE: Online Wind Speed Calculator

I use Struware's code search. I'd call the price a little more than nominal, but I couldn't do without it. Link below.

Problem resolved. Computer was replaced a while back, and came with McAfee stuff on there, subscription had run out but I hadn't removed it either, and it and another web filter weren't cooperating ("This here computer ain't big enough for both of us!").
