specifying timber pile grade/species in drawing
specifying timber pile grade/species in drawing
(OP)
I'm using timber design manual and also has NDS as a reference.
I mostly do steel structures.
I just want to make sure I'm calling out the timber grade/species correctly on my drawing.
Is it enough to say:
Timber Pile, 12" Butt Diameter, Southern Yellow Pine
Note: Timber must be treated in accordance with AWPA with CCA at 0.8 pcf

RE: specifying timber pile grade/species in drawing
The table of capacity on page 17 of timber manual only shows southern pine or douglas fir, it didn't go more specific than that.

No, in fact, butt diameter is not part of a typical timber piling specification. Read Chapter 3.0 of "Timber Pile Design & Construction Manual" more carefully, especially the footnotes.
Follow up by obtaining ASTM D25-12, "Standard Specification for Round Timber Piles".
One thing puzzles me, if you don't have experience specifying timber piles, how do you know that a pile with 12" butt diameter is the size needed?
