specifying timber pile grade/species in drawing

I'm using timber design manual and also has NDS as a reference.
I mostly do steel structures.
I just want to make sure I'm calling out the timber grade/species correctly on my drawing.

Is it enough to say:

Timber Pile, 12" Butt Diameter, Southern Yellow Pine

Note: Timber must be treated in accordance with AWPA with CCA at 0.8 pcf

Do I need to be more specific than just saying southern yellow pine, like the grade, astm, specific type of southern pine?

The table of capacity on page 17 of timber manual only shows southern pine or douglas fir, it didn't go more specific than that.

anyone who has done lots of wood project in the US?

RE: specifying timber pile grade/species in drawing

These are very basic questions. If you do not know the answers, then you should ask your supervisor for guidance.

i work in industrial industry and we don't really have projects where we use timber (except for this one). we don't have general notes for timber. it's not a timber structure project, it's a steel platform supported on timber piles. i've used timber piles before supporting mat foundation but the piles are by others and we just get the pile capacity.

No, in fact, butt diameter is not part of a typical timber piling specification. Read Chapter 3.0 of "Timber Pile Design & Construction Manual" more carefully, especially the footnotes.

Follow up by obtaining ASTM D25-12, "Standard Specification for Round Timber Piles".

One thing puzzles me, if you don't have experience specifying timber piles, how do you know that a pile with 12" butt diameter is the size needed?
