Rough Road Vibrations

Rough Road Vibrations

Rough Road Vibrations

(OP)
I have a situation where a client is asking me to estimate the impact on a existing structure from a new highway that will be added near it. One thing that worries me: a lot of the estimates I have (on traffic induced vibrations) seem to be for roads that are in decent shape (at worst). The state I live in, the roads have to be literally falling apart before they do anything about it. (My truck has been almost shaken to pieces on some roads.) Ergo, I wonder if anyone knows of a "rough road" estimate for induced vibrations.

RE: Rough Road Vibrations

WARose....check the CalTrans website. They have of lot of vibration info on roadways.

I have the 'Transportation and Construction-Induced Vibration Guidance Manual' by them. (And some other stuff.) It's not clear to me if the data they give is for a unusually rough road. In fact, in that Guidance Manual, they specifically talk about fixing potholes where they cause excessive vibrations.....so that makes me suspect this data isn't for a rough road. I will look on their web site more. Thanks for the feedback.

RE: Rough Road Vibrations

WARose....also check Charles Dowding's book on vibrations.
