development of E for concrete with curing time

development of E for concrete with curing time

(OP)
Hi all,

I am looking for some references on the development of modulus of elasticity of concrete with respect to curing time - in particular in the first week or two of curing. A graph with different concrete strengths would be perfect. Some background on our situation. We had specified 4ksi concrete for flat plate slabs - the contractor then used 6ksi concrete, and took of the forms early, at the time where the 6ksi mix was supposed to have obtained 4ksi. The mix was supposed to have cured to 4ksi within 4 days, and so that is when the forms were taken off - this seems way too soon. The mix itself is standard, with the addition of a water reducer/plasticizer. Thanks in advance!

RE: development of E for concrete with curing time

"Concrete Construction Handbook" by Nawy, figure 5.21 has what you need. Or you can get the source document, "Evaluation of the Long Term Properties of Concrete" by PCA. It's not organized by strength, but w/c ratios and curing methods.

RE: development of E for concrete with curing time

The forms are also required for curing. If they were removed early, the exposed surfaces should have been provided with some sort of treatment for curing to ensure that the concrete achieves its full properties!
