line widths and plotted thickness : legacy widths vs new widths

line widths and plotted thickness : legacy widths vs new widths

line widths and plotted thickness : legacy widths vs new widths

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I have some questions regarding line width settings.

Prior to NX8.5 or NX9, there were 3 legacy line width available ( thin, normal & thick)
We use "Normal" for all Part geometry & "Thin" for all other object like dimensions on drawings.
actual plotted line thickness was controlled by the settings which assigned a value to each of the 3 widths ( i.e "normal"=0.7mm)
Although limited in number of widths , this was pretty unambigious.

Since NX8.5/NX9, line width settings were changed to 9 possible numerical values 0.13mm, 0.18mm , 0.25mm, ... -> 2.0mm
The strange thing is that (at least in our setup) all "normal" width objects were migrated to "0.18mm" width
while ofcourse we wanted to have these object plotted with 0.7mm
At the time we solved this setting the plot/pdf "custom width " settings ", with succes.

However, while updating our internal data creation standards, I realised this does still seems strange, having to explain to new users :
" If you want something to be plotted in 0.7mm thinkcness, specify a width of 0.18mm "

Q1: Is/Was there a setting which controlled the migration from legacy width to new widths?

Q2: Is there a setting to keep using the legacy widths in NX9/NX10/NX11/... ?

Q3: Is there batch conversion available to convert all our data from 0.18mm to 0.7mm?

thanks in advance

Ronny

RE: line widths and plotted thickness : legacy widths vs new widths

There's a GTAC article which covers some of what you're asking:
https://solutions.industrysoftware.automation.siem...

1. From the article: In NX10, Customer Defaults have been introduced to control legacy to new line width mapping.
Use the Gateway->Line Widths->Converstion tab to set up mapping from legacy to the new widths.

2. No

3. The same article mentions NXOpen API Preferences::PartObject::MigrateLegacyLineWidths to convert all legacy line widths to new widths based on the line width map stored in the part.
I'm not a coder, but that would be the way to batch convert I would expect.
