Assembly Hole Feature help in Catia V5

Assembly Hole Feature help in Catia V5

Assembly Hole Feature help in Catia V5

(OP)
Hello,
I am sure this a common practice and thus issue (?) in most Aero-structure Industries.

We have large sheet metal panels which go on top of each other during assembly stage and are held by rivets.

I know that one can specify a hole feature in Assembly module of Catia V5. Issue is, I don't know how to do a rectangular and/or circular transformation of the assembly feature hole. Creating each hole feature individually becomes tedious. Intent is that if we have to change the design in one part and subsequently modify the hole location, the changes get propagated automatically. Is the above possible in Catia V5 assembly module?

Currently, I am defining hole locations on each part and keeping track of changes some times can become challenging. Takes a lot of effort to ensure there is good alignment between various part holes.

Thx

Use skeleton design methodology.

In the skeleton part you can define sketches, transformations and patterns (rectangular, circular...).

Use this part to define the geometry (with link) of the other parts.

When you change the skeleton, all the parts change.

Best regards,
Costin Ruja

Hi Costin Ruja,
Thx for your reply. I have never used that methodology before.

Can you post further on how to use the skeleton part to define the geometry (with link) of the other parts, when you have time? I will try to find the same but if you can point me towards a good tutorial for using skeleton parts, I would appreciate it.

I suggest another approach to this: make a CATPart of the assembly, by copy & pasting (with link) the PartBodies of the sheetmetal panels. Boolean assemble the bodies into one. Then add your rivet hole and pattern.

Appreciate the help folks!
