Open by Proximity - Selection Rule?

Open by Proximity - Selection Rule?

Open by Proximity - Selection Rule?

(OP)
Hi,

Couple of quick question about the Open by Proximity command:
-What's selected when using Open by Proximity, components inside and crossing the Bounding Box and, does the same rule apply with True Shape?
-Is the Open by Proximity, Bounding Box selections effected when using Multi-Select Rules?

Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong, but I used to get good responses from knowledgeable people in this forum, but that hasn't been the case in a while.

Is there something I should know??

Some of us no longer have access to the NX software, which in my case was due to retiring 16 months ago sleeping2

Hey congratulations, John!
I've been reading and admiring your posts for a long time, so thank you.
I hope you're enjoying your retirement and thanks for responding - I was starting to think something was wrong with my account.

I know I've asked a lot of quotations and I haven't answered nearly as much, but that's only because my workload is so high and I don't get a lot of free time.
That being said, I'm probably not the only on in that situation and if, by any chance, that's why I'm not being responded to, I will certainly participate more as I think this is a great service to have.

RE: Open by Proximity - Selection Rule?

True inside/crossing is the standard method for open by proximity, however, if you have a thin, long pipe that has many bends/changes in direction then the bounding box is massive and as a result, you end up opening loads of crap that isn't necessarily anywhere near your part. True shape data, if enabled in customer defaults (Assemblies -> Site Standards -> True Shape) is created on save and you have the option to define a cell size which you would scale according to the size of the product you design. When the true shape data is created, it basically fully encapsulates your model in little block (cells) so if your model could be seen, it would resemble something that has been created using cubic lego blogs, this is far mode accurate on uneven shape components and will only open componnts whose other true shape cells touch on cross each other and are therefore genuinely close to each other.

JCBCAD,

Thank you - I think I was missing the fact that I have to Save the part, after turning all the True Shape stuff on, for the true shape cells to be created... I was also thinking I'm getting odd results due to the fact that I'm selecting routed cable that only use Space Claims, rather than stock or deformable components, but I'm not sure that's it at all now? I'll confirm with testing. To bad we can't set the Multiple Select options for Open by Proximity, that would be useful. I think I understand better now, thanks gain!
