design of temporary saddles for hydrotest
(OP)
hi dears
we have a thin long tower(max shell thk.= 28 & length =80m & Od.=7250). I designed at least 4 temporary saddles for hydrotest at shop by ANSYS workbench. but the stress at horn of saddle in the analysis is too large and I have to add 2 extra saddles.
the stress in shell is reduced but stress in corn of saddles (near to horn) is too large.
please guide me the categories of stress in saddle according to ASME Sec VIII Div2 (primary and secondary) , also allowable stress in this case for shell and saddle separately.
thanks alot

What do your saddles look like? Where are they?
No drawing = No help is possible.

Why submit the concrete foundation to the weight of a full hydrotest? It probably is not designed to take such a load if the Column is a distillation column.
Avator64,
Are you assuming "ideal" weight distribution on each of the saddles or have you analysed the situration exactly?
As racookepe1978 says a drawing/sketch of the situation says a thousand words.
RE: design of temporary saddles for hydrotest
This is an economic problem for hydrostatic test (horizontal or vertical)
a) cost of saddles (visual inspection is not accessible under saddles)
b) cost of concrete foundation (visual inspection is 100% accessible in vertical position)
