What type of motors for "Wind Generating"?

What type of motors for "Wind Generating"?

What type of motors for "Wind Generating"?

(OP)
I need a expert in motors, I can't find any good information on "which" motors will work best for wind generators, brand and if possible model numbers, 400 watt, 900 watt,1000,3000,4500,5500,and 11000 watts, I need most likely in some cases a 3phase Ac Motor, should be low rpm, maybe is there any one out their that works in a small wind generator manufacturering plant, even the names of what companies make such motors or "generators" even web sites that may help, should it be brushless,have brushes, How do you know what the output of a generator will give eg: 1000 watts? tryed searching the internet, put is really hard to find what the motor is good for, thats where a expert comes in, please help, thanks, Rick west1999@telus.net

RE: What type of motors for "Wind Generating"?

First you need to decide on what you are trying to accomplish. Are you going to be connected to the grid i.e pump back to the utility, or is this a stand-alone operation?
If you will be connected to the grid then an induction generator might be considered. If it is a stand alone operation I would be incline to go to D.C. and convert to 3ph on the ground.
 Would suggest you contact Windpowertech in Grafton? Wisc.
I don't have the No. handy but I know that they do alot of work in this area.
If I can be of further assistance write me.

RE: What type of motors for "Wind Generating"?

In the NorCal Altamont Pass area, the typical machine is roughly 480V 3ΓΈ 100kW induction, with more recent tendencies to use 4-quadrant variable-frequency drives in reversed real-power-flow mode, to better match wind characteristics to the 60Hz system.  {Power output varies with wind speed cubed.}

Safe to say there are mountains of info out there.  www.windpower.org/ www.homepower.com/ www.nrel.gov
