Grounding around 240kV Transformer Oil Containment

Grounding around 240kV Transformer Oil Containment

Grounding around 240kV Transformer Oil Containment

(OP)
Hi,

My question is about routing conductor around a 240kV transfromer Sorbweb oil containment. The issue is that the containment area (14.5 x 32.5 m) is pretty huge compared to the transformer pad (4 x 9 m). If we are to install conductors below containment they will have to be installed at about 0.9m which is quite deep compared to the standard installation depth of 0.5m.
Either we can install conductor outside the oil containment area and run down leads to the grid. Or install grid below Sorbweb.

The issue I see with the first option is that the surge arrester leads (on transformer) would be quite long before they reach the grid. Also current will not be dissipated into the actual grid unless it reaches the main grid many meters away.

For the second option, there might be some construction issues.

FYI, there are not touch and step potential issues with either configuration.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!
