FEM modelling of composites

FEM modelling of composites

FEM modelling of composites

(OP)
Hi members,

Can anyone provide some information, advice or insights on what is the usual practices of making use of FEA to model composites, especially when the composites are subjected to damages due to dynamic loadings.
Any input and discussion on this thread will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

RE: FEM modelling of composites

A lot will depend on the type of composite and what you are trying to find out. For instance:

"A random nano-composite used to make a macro component and a you want to find the macro stresses could be analysed as a homogeneous isotropic solid."

At the other end of the scale:

"A concrete bridge with steel reinforcement could be very anisotropic and inhomogeneous.

Your question is just too big. There are many types of composite and uses. Please be more specific about the composites and uses.

About the impact/damage issues the use of an Explicit code may be appropriate.

RE: FEM modelling of composites

hi sgdon
I am sunil currently doing project on FEA of flat slab,
tere i am trying to get analysis of column to slab joint,
i am using steel columns ,for that u have to use different
type of elements ,with different material & member properties
bye

Thanks sunil11 and tld23,

perhaps a more specific description will on the issue of progressive damage modeling of a GRP subjected to external pressures.

RE: FEM modelling of composites

well FEM modelling of a laminated composite plate based on various theories when subjected to synamic loading  has been dealt with in detail with formulation and parametric study in the book by JN Reddy. "Mechanics of laminated composite plates".
hope this helps
