compression & recovery test for gaskets

compression & recovery test for gaskets

(OP)
Hello

reviewing some test certificates of spiral wound gaskets for one of our projects. the supplier has not conducted compression and recovery test for our non standard gaskets. When contacted, he says that he would need no. of bolts and bolts diameter to conduct this test.
As i understand that bolt stress of 30000psi can be considered from ASME B16.20. Not able to understand why the gasket manufacturer needs no. of bolts and bolts dia to conduct the compression & recovery test.
Is it really required for such test? Any experiences/technical inputs pls..

Regards

RE: compression & recovery test for gaskets

Bolt stress of 30000psi is rather low for a spiral wound gasket. ASME PCC-1 recommends around 50000psi for a bolt preload.

Hi DSB123 ..
Noted your point & thanks fr that. But my main question is whether vendor gasket manufacturer require gasket no. of bolts and bolt root dia. to conduct this test or not.
