Using selection filters in conjunction with view dependant edits

Using selection filters in conjunction with view dependant edits

Using selection filters in conjunction with view dependant edits

(OP)
Hi all,

I have a casting which is quite complicated, if I turn on hidden lines to show as dashed and even change the colour (color if you're American) of the hidden lines to be different from the solid lines, when I use view dependant edit and try and select the hidden lines using a selection filter (colour and line type) it will not select any of the hidden lines. If I interrogate one of the hidden lines using Information object, it tells me the line is solid and the same colour as the faces in the model. The filters seem to not recognise the colour/line font that is set when hidden lines are processed via the view settings. Why is this?

Thanks in advance

Si

Best regards

Simon

RE: Using selection filters in conjunction with view dependant edits

A view is nothing more than a gateway through which you're viewing the model. View preferences, in which you set the hidden line display, do not change the model geometry. They only control how that geometry is displayed in the view. Yeah, probably not the most elegant or sensible method of doing things, but that's how it seems to work.

Are you leaving your cursor over the hidden lines long enough for the Quick Pick or 3 dots next to your cursor to appear? Did you try updating the view and then selecting the hidden lines? Do you have your selection preferences set to Entire Assembly?
